Question Shira Aeroponics - Ultrasonic Fogger

Check this out--> http://www.netvision.net.il/~keshet01/ it's an Ultrasonic Fogger made specificaly for Areoponics. After reading the web site I fired off an E-mail to them.. Here is there reply:
Quote:
Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing on behalf of Shira Aeroponics Inc. as their representative that we are pleased to say that we now have a small inventory of the small Shira fogging unit in stock. We are, however waiting for the reservoir float control that is back ordered to us for perhaps another three to four days. Since you were one of first to respond to Shira as interested customers, I want to make them available to you before anyone else. I am also in the process of distributing these units to various stores but will hold back on this order to make sure you receive one first because of your patience. We also may not see another order in our possession for up to 3 months.

We have been involved with the hydroponic/aeroponics industry for twelve years and have seen some very progressive technology but I feel that this is going to revolutionize this industry as well as into the agricultural industry and others. We are very excited about being involved with this technology and want to share it with everyone. We feel that almost anyone will be able to benefit from it.

As this is new technology and wanting everyone to have access to it there are going to be questions. We have access to information from universities and horticulturists to help with questions and concerns. We are currently conducting our own tests and experiments. We will be creating a database from existing and future questions for support to our customers.

The prices for the module which include the fog generator and the growing bench are

Canadian funds $ 863.00
U.S. funds $ 550.00

These prices are FOB Regina, Sask. Canada. We can ship to you directly via UPS or by whatever shipping method you prefer.

I have more pictures available to you if you desire. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I've attached the photo they sent me as well. So my question to all you smart people is: How does this work and could we construct a similar but cheaper type of system?

Wink

the ultra sonic fogger uses a peizo electric oscillator to vibrate the water into creatinging small micron size particles of nutrient rich water. the vapor is then pushed into the humidity chamber via fan normally or high spinning disk. the water then condensens and is returned to the resivour. could you build something similiar?, oh yeah, i had thought about this a while ago, and i have seen things while that may work just like it, but don't have the internal tank size to make it worth while. but you might find something different, so give it a go!

Hollyweed is beginning to sprout.

Hey Stonney,

I built this little aeroponic fogger about six months ago but haven't tried it out yet. I used an ultrasonic fountain fogger that I purchased on Ebay for about $27. The fogger works best when it's submerged in about 2" of water so my design took that fact into consideration. The pump is a Rio 50 the smallest one I could get my hands on. The whole idea is to just keep the fogger submerged at all times with your nute solution. The pump slowly fills up the bottom cylinder and seeps up through the holes I've drilled in the top chamber. The parts are just different plastic containers I found around my house. I stick the "Hollyweed Haze House" (or H3 for short) in one of those large Rubbermaid containers that everyone uses for their aeroponic units. I add enough nute solution to cover the pump… the whole thing fogs up really well with the cover on. I'm not sure if it's enough to sustain a crop, though - but it might be fun to try. I think the baby plants would have to be hand watered until roots were showing through the net pots. I'm still trying to get the hang of my new aero unit so I'll probably try out the "H3" when I'm finished with my present grow.

Best,
Hollyweed

Thumbs up Awesome!!

Thanks lab_rat I have been looking into this for the last few days.. Looks promising.

Hollyweed - Hey your from my home town. Awesome H3 Let us know how it works if you ever get the chance.

OK, this is what I found--> http://www.mainlandmart.com/foggers.html About 1/2 way down they have a 3 & 5 head foggers! I think thats what I need to get a good soaking. i'm going to try it with a smaller cheaper one to see if it does work. If it does then i'll move up to the High output 3 mister fogger or even the 5! Hey Hollyweed check out the Fogger buoy at the bottom of the page.

I think I might be able to use a rubbermaid container like the aero filled with nutes and a fogger on a buoy running 24/7 or on a cycle timer. it outta fill the container up with oxygenated nutrient mist right? That way you don't need a drain or fan. Kind of like a 'high-tech' bubbler. Any thoughts on that? Anyone?

Stoney,

You the man... the hell with the H3, the fogger buoy and the 3 or 5 fogger head seems to be the way to go! I think you're right, it would just be a "high tech" bubbler (without the airpump noise). Will it work? Who knows... but it sure is going to be fun to find out!

Exclamation Oops..We forgot about steve..

Sorry Steve for not answering your question. That does look like the same kind of "fountain" fogger we are talking about.

Now I have been doing so research on this and I've noticed not too many people are trying it. Humm.. Maybe it just needs a cool name.. Like Foggerponics.. What do you all think?

Now being serious for a moment.. I have found a few discussion about trying this. Her are a few questions that were raised:
Quote:
You can only use the ultrasonic fogger in a cloning application, with the purest possible water, either distilled or RO'd. The reason for this is that hard water, either from natural mineral deposits, or from nutrient salts in a hydroponic reservoir will cause the transducer to cake up, the more minerals, the quicker it will plug up. In theory it should work great, but in practice, it won't. Short time solution is to clean it in a bath of C-L-R, but that won't last long and probably would be hard on the fogger.
Quote:
It seems to me that if the fogger is kept constantly immersed, this shouldn't happen. Caking only occurs where the salt solution is exposed to air.
Hummm, This is something we will have to play with and find out. Damn I need to order one of those foggers soon. Most foggers are used for insect control in green houses. I wonder if they are made differently the these foggers? Here are some links to those:http://www.lightsdis.com/category/Pe...tors?offset=20

He said Foggerponics

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Like Foggerponics HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Joke's like that should carry a warning for the stoned hahaha!
The one in your site is 12v (I think going to have a proper read on this) yet the one in my catoloug do'es not say what voltage?if they are the same. The worry about blockage do'es concern me a bit ,so why not juryrig a filter before the pump?just an idea!
